A Study on Job-Related Factors Affecting a Depression Level of Housework Service Workers -Focused on the Moderating Effects of Social Support-

Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to find influence that job-related factors of housework service workers, and to suggest a practical involvement method capable of promoting mental health improvement of the housework service workers by verifying moderating effect of social support. As of 2008, the housework service workers providing paid housework service to a general family in Seoul, Kyunggi, Inchon and Busan regions were investigated as an object. The moderated multiple regression analysis was used as a verification method of the research model. The major results of the present study are as follows. As a result of investigating job-related factors affecting a depression level of the housework service workers through the multiple regression analysis method, it appeared that they feel depression as employment get more unsafe and an emotional labor degree is more serious. As a result of investigating moderating effect of the social support in relations between the job-related factors and the depression of the housework service workers through the moderated regression analysis method, it appeared that the respective interacting item such as the job insecurity, the family support, the colleague support and the staff support has the moderating effect of the depression level. It appeared that the interacting items of the job demand and the colleague support also have the moderating effect of the depression level, and the moderating effect is large as the social support becomes a higher level. Main effect of the family support, colleague support and the staff support as a moderating variable turned out to be statistically significant, so it appeared that the depression level is decreased. The present study based on the above-mentioned research results has meaning in aspects that paid attention to the job-related factors negatively affecting to mental health of the housework service workers restrictively handled in the traditional study, and suggested a practical involvement position by verifying the moderating effect of the social support.
